January flew by with a few flurries and bitter cold. We had lots and lots of indoor recess are eager for warmer days! We spent the month learning about a great leader - Martin Luther King, Jr. We learned a lot about treating people fairly and other civil rights as we learned about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life. Everyone one of us has dreams like Martin did and I can't wait to see what these kids do to make the world a better place. In other areas, we worked on our patterning techniques and showed them off in our cool winter hat display. We also worked on counting by 5's and 10's to 100, identifying pennies, nickels, and dimes and their values, writing numbers to 40, and 2D and 3D shapes. Our 3D shape museum was fun to explore and we finished a book about it as partners. Our favorite thing this month was probably our study of Heat and Light because not only did we learn a lot about the sun and other sources of heat and light, but we got to make s'mores! This was a perfect way to end the day and to discover how sun, heat lamps, flashlights, room lights, and the microwave affect marshmallows and chocolate. We had a fantastic discussion about these topics and used our globe(the earth), a flashlight (the sun), and a mirror (the moon) to explain light, heat, seasons, rotations, and more. Our senses helped us explore this science concept! There is still so much more to learn and explore - and catch up on! Until next month, stay warm and keep on learning!
