Today we started an experiment to go along with our Dental Health studies. We created a "cavity" in an apple and a potato by poking a hole in them, and now we'll wait to see what happens. Likewise, we'll wait to see what happens to our hard boiled eggs (aka teeth) that we put in water and the ones we put in a glass of pop. Hmmmmm…….our predictions that they will be rotten might happen. The egg already started turning brown after only 5 minutes. This will be interesting and students were super excited to see what happens tomorrow. One student even wanted me to stay overnight "to keep an eye on it." (Not sure it was a good idea - then again, I might be able to get caught up and make some of my piles disappear!) We also had some St. John's Prep students here today and they showed us how to make a homemade lava lamp with a 2 liter bottle, a bit of water, a lot of vegetable oil, some food coloring, and Alka Seltzer. It was awesome and we learned how water molecules bond like magnets and keep the oil and food coloring out, while the Alka Seltzer caused a bubbling effect. When we shone a light behind it it was so cool! We now have lots of scientists in the making!
