How much happy can you have in one day? Well, we set out to find out today as we celebrated Valentine's Day. The morning was filled with candy heart patterning, valentine paper plate hat creations, write-the-room full of valentine words, and more. Then, in the afternoon we partied some more with heart Twister, heart tree creations, marshmallow 3D designs, cookie decorating, and candy heart math (graphing, tallying, counting, addition, and subtraction). Plus we passed out our valentine's, too. I'm not sure if the kids were tired, but I sure was! Thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped with their children's boxes, for sending in treats, and to those that planned and came in to help - it was so very much appreciated!

What a flurry of a day! We had so many fun activities planned that the 100th day wasn't long enough - so tomorrow we'll continue the fun! The day started off with each of us making a 100 Fruit Loop necklace (some of them got eaten before they made it home). We also made a gumball machine craft with 100 gumballs, a Q-tip gumball sheet with 100 gumballs, a 100 day crown, a hundred day dot-to-dot, a 100 object hidden picture, and we shared our fantastic 100 day collections via clues and a guessing game. We really got fooled by some of the bottles and all the clues were fantastic! Oh, and we counted to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's; plus, we did 100 of a variety of activities, i.e. jumping jacks, situps, etc. Tomorrow we'll play a game, fill out a 100 chart, do some 100 day writing about what we want to do before we're 100, create something with 100 unifix cubes, and whatever else we can squeeze in. So many ideas and so little time! Up next - Presidents' Day and Living vs. Non-Living. February has just begun and it is already fly by fast! First we learned all about ground We kicked off I Love to Read Month with One District One Book as we have been having a good time reading Beverly Cleary's The Mouse and the Motorcycle. I hope you are all enjoying it as a family. We will be watching the movie later this month. Also, to help celebrate I Love to Read Month, we had Harper Davis come and read some stories to us. Irene from the Albany Public Library also came and passed out applications for a library card and read a book to us, too. Then we got to ask lots of questions - and tell lots of stories. We also got our picture taken and made a short video for the WILD Country Website. Look for us on their Facebook and Website! Another February learning adventure was spent learning about Dental Hygiene when Gwen Seitz, Avon Dental Hygienist extraordinaire, gave us a dental health presentation. We learned so much about how to take care of our teeth and what foods are good for us. Plus, we got lots of free stuff - including a new Minions toothbrush! Tomorrow is the 100th day of school and there is more fun and learning to be had! I can't wait to see everyone's 100 day collection. (I haven't even peeked once at the ones that are sitting here.) I wonder what it will be like 100 years from now? I think of my grandmother who will be 97, and I think about all the changes she's seen. They still used horses to plow the fields when she was little and you were lucky if you got to go to school. Just for a day it would be so interesting to go back and see what it was like. We take so much for granted and life seems to move pretty fast; sometimes maybe too fast. I hope you are also having fun helping your child create their Valentine's Day box. There are really some cute and clever ones that have come in so far. It's hard to believe that it will be Valentine's Day next week! Supposedly we're going to get a bit more snow tomorrow. Maybe it will be your last chance to build a snowman. Well it is time to get ready for tomorrow and for the myriad of other things happening this month. Take care and happy reading! |
