Whew! I can't believe we packed in so much fun in one afternoon! We painted pumpkins, measured pumpkins, frosted and decorated cookies, played a cool throwing game for prizes, made masks, created a witch's brew snack bag, and enjoyed some spider cider! Plus, we still had some leftover time for play and to fill our treat bags. Special thanks to Brianna Silbernick, Kami Davey, and Kim Fosse - WE COULDN"T HAVE DONE IT WiTHOUT YOU! A good time was had by all! It is so hard to believe that October is almost over - these months are just flying by! I can't wait to see how everyone is disguising their turkeys; there are so many original and creative ideas and they always look great. Everyone enjoys seeing them hanging up. This coming month will bring more work on patterns, shapes, numbers, sight words, beginning reading, letters and sounds, word blending, word families, and counting. We will also look at how people lived long ago. I already told the kids that when I was growing up we only had 4 channels on a black and white tv, no dvd/vcr or cell phones (neither had been invented yet - oops, now I'm dating myself). Anyway, the shocked look on their faces was priceless. One student said, "How did you live?!" I told him we spent a lot of time playing outside, reading, and playing board games. They all thought that those things sounded pretty good. I agreed! Well, it is time for me to recover a bit from all the Halloween excitement and to start planning the next lessons. Take care and enjoy the last of the fall colors.

We had an awesome day last week at the fire station! We reviewed fire safety and were able to answer lots of the firefighters questions because we had listened so well when we were learning about fire safety in our classroom! It was a great day to go for a walk, even if it was a little bit windy; and we spotted lots of shapes along the way and sang some of songs and said some of our poems, too. We can't believe how fast our time in kindergarten is going! Who can believe that September has come and gone, and that we are almost in the middle of October!!
We finished up our study of apples with some apple tasting. This year the favorite was Granny Smith - they sure liked this tart, crisp apple. Now we've moved on to Fire Safety and will culminate it with a trip to the Fire Department tomorrow. Cross your fingers for a sunny day and remember to dress warm!!! We also participated in the Walk-a-thon which raised over 17,000 dollars! This is great news as we will be able to go on several field trips which will be thankfully funded by the PTA. Thanks for all your support and hard work! We live in a great community! Next up - pumpkins and Halloween fun mixed in with lots of math, stories, reading, art, songs, poems, and more! |
