Can you believe it is already week 2 of school!??! We've been so busy chasing Pete the Cat, learning rules and routines, meeting new teachers, playing, practicing taking turns, doing projects, listening to stories, and learning that we haven't hardly had time to come up for air! Below you can see our class enjoying a game of "Dead Bug" in gym class. Gym class is only one of the many specials we have during the week. We also enjoy music, social/emotional learning, and library. Be sure to ask your child about some of their favorite activities in school and also see if they can tell you at least 5 of our school rules! Summer is fast coming to a close and Fall is quickly approaching; enjoy the warm weather while it lasts!

We had an impromptu visit this week from the Albany FFA and the Stearns County Dairy princesses. The kids got a chance to pet calves, rabbits, kittens, puppies, and more! Plus, check out the awesome display of tractors in the slideshow that they got to look at, too. As if that wasn't enough, the Dairy Princesses treated them to free stickers, pencils, coloring books, crayons, and a lip balm that smells like chocolate milk. What a great way to start the day! What a wonderful time we had listening to the kids perform and then joining in to learn a dance! Watch for these talented kids to develop more as they grow up! Due to weather woes, we had to reschedule our field trip to SJU to learn all about maple syrup but it was well worth it! Everyone remembered their snow attire and even though it was a bit windy, we beat the snowstorm to have some fun learning about how to identify and tap a maple tree, and then we all got to take a turn at collecting sap that will be made into delicious syrup! We even got to taste some! YUM! As one mom said, "This is liquid gold!!" Thank you to all our volunteers who made our trip such a success and so much fun! On the 100th day of school we celebrated by creating projects of 100 things. What amazing creations there were to share! Sorry if I missed a few; some kids took them home before I had a chance to snap a picture of them! :( Thank you so much for sharing your many ways to show 100!! This week one of our classes won the "Trash for Cash" prize of dressing our janitor, Mr. Jeff Gerads for the day. He is such a good sport and you can see him in all his glory below. What an amazing group of people we have at Albany Elementary!
Last week on Wednesday, we got a chance to show off our reading skills as we read to Lyn Metz and her Therapy Dog, Freddie. The kids enjoyed cuddling with him, watching him do some tricks, and getting a treat from Freddie, too, after they gave him one! We have great people in our community who are so will to share their talents and gifts!
Thank you, Gwen Seitz, of Avon Dental, for a fabulous presentation on Dental Health! It was fun and educational! What a wonderful day we had on February 13th as we celebrated Valentine's Day! We started the morning by using candy hearts to estimate, count, sort, and graph; followed by some delicious sampling of the said hearts! Then, we had a variety of literacy stations centered around Valentine's and hearts followed by a fun-filled Valentine's Day party! We enjoyed some Minute-to-Win-It Games, cookie decorating, and picture frame crafting. We couldn't believe how fast the day went! Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! |
